I have two other recipes besides this one. One is my mother's Chili Relleno Casserole the other is Chocolate Cavity Maker Cake. When I originally got this chocolate cake recipe it was from one of our local TV stations about 25 years ago. It was called Chocolate Heaven for Super Bowl Sunday. I lost it long ago giving copies of it to so many people. But I have one that is exactly the same. Here is a recipe for something you wouldn't believe could be used in cookies..mushrooms!
Mushroom Chocolate Cookies (You wont' believe them until you try them!!)
Bake 350 for 12 minutes
1/2 c butter or margarine 1/4 tsp salt 1 c brown sugar 3/4 c sour cream 1 egg 1/2 c fine macaroon crumbs 1 tsp vanilla 1/2 c drained and chopped maraschino cherries 1/2 tsp almond extract 1 c coarsely chopped fresh mushrooms 2 - 1oz squares unsweetened chocolate (melted) 2 c all purpose flour 1/2 tsp soda
Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add egg, vanilla and almond extract, beat thoroughly. Stir in chocolate. Sift flour, soda and salt, add to creamed mixture, alternately with sour cream. Mix well and add remaining ingredients. Drop from tsp at least 2-in apart on a greased cookie sheet. Bake in 350 oven for 12 min or until done. Remove from pan and cool. They will stay moist and tender for days.

I've asked my friend Alice to supply us with some mushrooms. When the men on the chess board get up and tell you where to go And you just had some kind of mushroom And your mind is moving slow Go ask Alice I think she'll know ... Absolutely perfect food for "delinquent dissenters." WE"LL make them see the light. One way or another.

How well I remember my Kahlua period. Or, how imperfectly I remember my Kahlua period. Something like that. LoL I only hope it works. Overdosing trolls seems like a noble calling. I wish they would have shown up last night. I was waiting with those mushroom cookies ....

WHAT are you people talking about? Crazy. ;D Anyway, I just received Julie Andrews memoir 'Home, A Memoir of My Early Years', from Amazon.com today! I love Julie Andrews, and my two favorite movies also happen to star her: The Sound of Music (my all time favorite), and Mary Poppins (on that I never saw and actually watched until my then 2 year old watched it). I wanted my wedding dress to be just like hers! Well, mine was long, white and flowing, but not like hers. And, we had my priest as opposed to a Bishop doing the ceremony. Of course it meant more because I grew up with my priest and he was my confirmation teacher, along with baptizing two of my brothers, marrying a bro & sis, and finally, my G-ma's funeral mass. Yeah, yeah, TMI!

Yeah, yeah, TMI! I'm sorry to say I didn't see either movie and I'm probably the only one too. I did love her in 10 with Dudley Moore and The Americanization of Emily with Jim Garner. I love her voice. She almost lost it. I believe she's regained some of it. Happy reading Jamie. I'm sure her book will be fabulous. I've just ordered Barbara Walters book. Surprisingly, the reviews for Tori Spelling's book were very, very good. So I ordered it too. Just two more to add to my already towering stack that has taken over my bedroom. Reading beats listening to day after day of political stuff. Sooo many books to read, so little time. Hope you're doing ok in your part of the world. Hugs.

Loved THE SOUND OF MUSIC, MARY POPPINS, and (although I should blush to admit it) VICTOR VICTORIA--as much for the puzzled look on James Garner's face as anything--
I was watching the Tony awards the night she sang--only two lines, but she sang--for the first time, some two or three years after that surgery. There wasn't a dry eye in the house--where the Tonys were held--or in mine either.
As for what we're talking about, Jamie, I'm not sure either--even though I was partly an instigator! But short comedic interludes between political issues--priceless.

After seeing Mary Tillman on Countdown and reading excerpts of her book, I decided to buy it. It arrived the other day. I read the cover flaps and the first chapter the day it arrived and I'm not able to put it down. It starts with Mrs. Tillman sitting in her back yard thinking of when Pat was a little boy. There are many family pictures. A book that I'm sure is well worth reading. A mother's tribute to her son and the neverending questions and her need for answers into the death of her son. To this day, the government has still not given the family an answer as to the truth of Pat Tillman's death.

Thanks for the update, Ornery. As that Sadie appears to be a woman who likes to travel, perhaps some snippets from today's local paper will be of interest. :
"Workshop Slated at Lily Dale Assembly" On Saturday at 1 and 4 pm Rev. Joe Brown, a Spiritualist minister from Canada and 'clairvoyant, healer, and author/lecturer, will prepare participants to search for and rescue lost souls. In the second segment of the class, students will be further prepared to cleanse the home of spirits that refuse to leave the premises. Fee is $40.'"
(I wonder if there's a market for training lost-soul rescue animals? I think cats would be better at that than dogs, but maybe I'm wrong. Or maybe a shape-shifitng spirit animal of some description...)
But wait, there's more! On Sunday, also at 1 and 4 pm: Ojibwa Indians Lone Wolf and Grey Owl "will explore a number of Ojibwa rituals and customs, dealing with the tribal naming ceremony, sweat lodge, sacred pipe, marriage, medicine societies and funeral rites. Fee is $25."
BUT WAIT!! THERE"S STILL MORE!!!!: "The annual Swedish meatball dinner will be served at the Thule Lodge from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday. The lodge is located at 4123 Pancake Hill Road, and the dinner is open to the public. Tickets may be purchased at the door. The Thule lodge, now into its 100th year in Jamestown, serves to preserve the Swedish heritage through events and activities. Eugene Johnson is the lodge chairman. New members are welcome."
Properly prepared Swedish meatballs remind one of when you've had a few shots of novacain and you can feel some odd thing in your mouth and after chewing on it for a while you realize it's your tongue. Only it's not your tongue, it's a Swedish meatball.
Tell her to leave the Ole and Lena jokes at home -- dese is Svedes, not dem... whatchacallits.... Norvegians.
Also tell Sadie she can use our guest bedroom if she stays out of the cough syrup. And, as I'm a beer snob, lite beer of any description is not permitted in the house. She'll have to sit on the porch to drink it, like the neighbors. And don't toss the empties into their yard. In revenge.

Thanks, Laura. I'll spare you the recipe for the meatballs.
As you have business experience, do you think the I could sell seminars in training soul-rescue animals in California? Or better to just start nationwide with online classes? Or sell franchises? (My horrorscope said to seek out opinions on business opportunities...)

In a state that loves cats, and in my neck of the woods, kitties rule, by all means open up that business license and come on down! Afterwards you can kick back and do online classes and sell those franchises. Let me know when you're on the way and I'll have either Tequila, Tab or Nachos ready. I'll have all three ready. No sense choosing.

Thanks, Laura. I'll spare you the recipe for the meatballs. I'll take that recipe. I can use meatballs in my new Jello Cheese Whiz casserole. Maybe with a few grapes thrown in. Ummm. I want to make it for my Memorial Day picnic. With chocolate for dessert, of course. Naturally, this counts as research for the Advanced Liberal Manual. That would be deductible as a business expense, wouldn't it, Laura?

The only question I have is whether they make watermelon jello. I'll check that out for my casserole. I could see grapes with that, although Cheese Whiz seems to be a little questionable.

Aside from sill (pickled herring) FOB Swedes are living dangerously when they go for the vanilla popsicles rather than plain ice cubes on a hot day.

I've got a killer recipe for Swedish Meatballs, given to me by a former boss who was from Norway. Made them every year at holiday time with Lefse. I'll post the recipe here if anyone would be interested. You won't be disappointed. Beware though, there is a process to making them in order for the quality of the meatball, not too very hard, but well worth the effort..and they can be frozen so make a bunch and enjoy them. I'll post the recipe over the weekend.
