Okay, enough politics, enough social issues for a few minutes. I've reached the saturation point with all of them--even the news that Hill C. will be appearing on THE O'REILLY FACTOR in a two-part interview airing on Wednesday and Thursday.
Over the past few days we've had some chatter about the ten cheesiest singers of all time, Jimmy Buffett lyrics (and titles)--I think it's time we had a thread for music, as we have for books. In this I'm co-opting an idea Moonstone pitched to me awhile back. (Is that okay with you, Moon?)
Mom frequently plays a classical station on satellite (our major indulgence)--and I'm very relaxed and sleepy after a lulling listen to Debussy's Clair de Lune.
What are the rest of you listening to today?

Co-opt away, madam. My whole purpose was to defer to you, as the music maven, to lead us in song.

I'm currently listening to Sarah Brightman "Live from Las Vegas". Earlier I listened to her "Symphony" and Rod Stewart's (who I don't consider cheesy) "Great Rock Classics of our Time" and his "Greatest Hits' CD.

I like Sarah Brightman too, although my favorite recording with her is still the original cast album of THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA--which could be considered a bit cheesy, I guess--but I fell in love with it the first time I heard Michael Crawford sing "The Music of the Night" and never quite recovered.

I'm so glad to hear you say you don't think Rod Stewart is cheesy. I was afraid I might have to wipe him off my iPod in shame. I like the Great American Song books (especially the first one), and the love songs (If We Fall in Love Tonight). And Maggie May. Right now the artists I am listening to most are Jane Monheit and Lizz Wright. I've also recently rediscovered Blessid Union of Souls.

I have a CD of Michael Crawford. "A Christmas Album" Did you know that he started out as a comedian on British TV? it was called "Some Mothers Do 'Ave "Em' and was hysterically funny. He's also on one of my Sarah CD's.

He's also on one of my Sarah CD's. I used to watch that when they showed it on BBC America! It was so funny--him and Betty--he was SO clueless-- Ah. Now we have the WPitW music--Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor--

Too bad, but doesn't Monnheit have a fantastic voice? We'll have to work this out before Pam's road trip.

Whoa, g1--and I thought I went through a lot of genres in a day! <G>
The past few days when I'm cleaning in the kitchen I've had that CD Fairweather was nattering about in the player--Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder, SOLDIER OF THE CROSS--I'm not religious, but the vocals and instrumentation (especially the guitars and Stuart Duncan's fiddle) are stunning--

I listen to Enya nearly every day, and a lot of her music was in my wedding. Overall, I have extremely eclectic tastes depending on my mood. One day, I'll listen to the soundtrack to FEAR & LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS - the next day Madonna - the next day O BROTHER, WHERE ART THOU? - the next day George Harrison. The only music I refuse to listen to is rap and (readying myself for slings and arrows) country.

I love smooth jazz. Dave Koz, Brian Culbertson, Norman Brown, so many others. Was just listening to the theme from Saturday Night Fever..I love to rock out to that! I love Emile Pandolfi, Dudley Moore (yes, the Dudley Moore RIP) recorded a wonderful CD titled "Songs Without Words." He plays piano throughout. A beautiful CD. Barry Manilow, which I mentioned before, and Barry White..and Teddy Pendergrass, RIP Teddy..classic. Poncho Sanchez, Tito Puento..how much time do I have? I'll come up with lots more.

I grew up with what is now referred to as classic country, though--yep, the cryin' in my beer stuff--and that's still where I turn for comfort--but that's just me. Do love the O BROTHER soundtrack. Truly a favorite.

And about 8000 on the home computer between my daughter and me. We both have access to a lot of promo music as a fringe of our jobs, a fair amount of which accidentally gets ripped... Lately listening to a lot of jazz, which is somewhat outside my usual range. Must be the weather.

For my listening pleasure today: "Music from a Farther Room" Lucia Micarelli "La Diva" Katherine Jenkins "The Chorus" Soundtrack "Kinky Boots" Soundtrack "No Boundaries" Ladysmith Black Mambazo My favorite movie music is from "Moulin Rouge". "Come What May" never fails to reduce me to tears. I've lost count of the number of times I've seen the movie. Strange, really, as I don't consider myself a romantic, but some movies just get you in your heart.

I've heard the music often enough...
