I always find this music sensuous in addition to soothing. Digestion has nothing whatsoever to do with it. I shudder to confess, I agree with you. But then Bach must have been a rather sensuous man. He DID father twenty children, after all. Busy, busy. But what does that say about mathematical precision?

I went back to the meatball bucket and found some lovely seafood ravioli. Don't ask. And a lovely orchard salad.

Thanks for the CF, Moon. Now then, how about a bit of Handel? www.youtube.com/watch?v=mnTQo3WS7rMThe "Pastoral Symphony" from MESSIAH. My favorite recording too, by the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus.

Patty, any news on your mom? Not much new. They are continuing her therapy. And they think they are going to keep her an extra week. She is making some progress physically, but not much progress in terms of her cognition. I am going there in about 10 days.

This cake seems to go well with the music, if not with the comfort food.

You'll be relieved to know that, after a diligent search, I can report that I found NO cakes in the image of the Sistine Chapel. There ARE, however, many cakes in the image of Jesus. I decided to maintain our non-secular atmosphere.

Moon, I think you've mentioned having a great love for this piece: Pachelbel's Canon in D. www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Af372EQLckThis piece contains one of the few actual technical things I know about music: it's a form called canonic variations on a ground bass. The bass viol repeats the same eight notes throughout: B, F sharp, G, D, E, B, E, F sharp, forming the "ground" for the airy long lines that float above it.

I decided to maintain our non-secular atmosphere. Not that, if somebody pd. him to, Duff Goldman wouldn't try to reproduce the Sistine Chapel in cake.

I know what a ground bass is, and I know that long shivery series of notes that Ferrante and Teicher ran down the keyboard in nearly every one of their recordings is called a glissando, and I know that, when you sing or play in a minor key but the piece ends on a major chord (by raising one note a half-step, I think) it's called a Picardy third. And THAT is literally the extent of my technical knowledge of music. With me, it's more heart and soul than intellect.
