Michael Scheuer may be the new Glenn Beck. Beck is toast. Whoa, back up here. Faux has shown Beck the door? He's yelling "Rupert, don't leave me"? No, but it's just a matter of time. 50 things to do with a cupcake ... #1

No, but it's just a matter of time. 50 things to do with a cupcake ... #1 I was about to say "let's save these until they DO show Lonesome the door" and then I thought--nope, let's have fireworks and a BIG cake then. And yes, this is definitely #1.

I had forgotten how deep his voice was. Wow. That deep voice still startles me, too. I'd never heard him until--remember at the end of the first DIE HARD movie, he's singing "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!" as Bruce Willis and Bonnie Bedelia ride off in the limo? That was the first time I ever heard Vaughn Monroe, although both Dad and Mom were fans.

Okay, you might think "Don't Fence Me In", given my musical background, would be my alltime favorite Cole Porter song. But nope: this song, by this performer, is my absolute favorite. www.youtube.com/watch?v=RHLC-EimdAcOl' Blue Eyes, from 1956. Bellissimo.

This is one of my top 5 songs ever. I think the first time I ever actually heard it may have been Harry Connick Jr.--but then I heard Sinatra's version and that was IT. My maternal grandmother, born in 1911, used to laugh and tell us about how, back when she was a girl, all the girls swooned and screamed over Sinatra the way they did Elvis in the fifties and the Beatles in the sixties. Great memories.

Okay, babe, I've been saving Hampson for last. You wanna have another cupcake before we add him?

No, just the frosting.

Ah--so let's have him in my favorite pensive pose: singing a lovely version of "Begin the Beguine"-- www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYHXTJxoZqoOkay, we've used it before, but hey--it's HAMPSON.

I knew if I waited long enough, I'd find a use for this. Wow. Who knew when I began my musical day I'd go from a wife-murdering Renaissance madrigalist to Cole Porter, Thomas Hampson and chocolate cake? There IS something to be said for being a musical dilettante with an open mind.

Come to think of it, if I were somewhat evil--REALLY a Countdown's Cantankerous Cupcake--I'd drop a Hampson link for the girls at CC's. Give 'em sweet dreams.
