The White House came out against, well sort of, what Carter said to and stated Obama "didn't believe it had anything to do with the color of his skin." I understand Obama had to say something; if he didn't, he would have been attacked; however, I wish it didn't come out that way!! I wish some of the people who are poo-pooing the race angle would actually come live in the south awhile. It might be instructive. I think you're right, Katie!! My friend on facebook, Kay, posted on facebook today she spent an hour in SC, which felt like a month and went on to state she quickly realized she was "no longer in San Francisco." I'm no expert, you are!!

We who live in the Rust Belt sometimes think it's more racist here than it is in the South. Milwaukee, for example, is the most segregated city in the country, I believe.

I'm a fan of both King and Clapton too, Pam. Especially King. Nobody quite like him. Willie kinda got into a bluesy frame of writing for awhile. Another hit from about the same time as "Night Life" was "Funny How Time Slips Away", here performed by the late great Billy Walker. www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Un-_nXRkQ0What made Billy Walker interesting was this ethereal tenor coming out of this guy who stood like six foot six and weighed WELL over two hundred pounds. Amazing.

One question occurs to me, Moon--did Milwaukee ever have a large influx of southerners moving in for work, the way Detroit did after WWII? That's one possibility for the persistence of segregation--

You're right about Walker's voice. Did you know that Elvis Presley recorded both "Ain't It Funny" and "Blue Eyes"? I was trying to figure out who else had recorded "Ain't It Funny" when I ran across "Blue Eyes." I don't associate Elvis with either of those songs, though. The dessert above is your classic cobbler. Do we need ice cream with that?

I guess because I grew up around guitarists in particular, I'm fascinated by the instruments they use.

That's one possibility for the persistence of segregation-- That's a qood question, Katie; I didn't realize Milwaukee was so segregated!! With the predictable result that the surrounding counties, in one of which I grew up, are the most conservative counties in the state. And the further predictable result that Milwaukee's school system is one of the worst in the universe, primarily because there are no property values to support it.

Do we need ice cream with that? Elvis wanted more than anything to be a great country singer--instead of which, he wound up the King of Rock & Roll--and he did do a number of old country songs over the course of his career. But you're correct, those aren't exactly the first ones you'd associate with Elvis. And the answer is yes. A cobbler without vanilla ice cream ain't a cobbler.

She's from Waukesha County, which is East of here by one county, and just west of Milwaukee County.

That does explain many things, right there. Almost like Podunk Holler North, if you'll pardon my saying so. (I refer to my hometown as Podunk Holler--rarely affectionately.)

Here is a blueberry almond cake. Joe Wilson says he was an immigration lawyer? Sheesh. Well, maybe he filled out an I-9 form or something.

More like almost Philadelphia. Meanwhile, the surrounding counties are very wealthy and form the same sort of buffering ring around the city that we saw with the suburbs of New Orleans during Katrina. The ironic part is that many of those who live in the suburbs work in the city and flee back to the safety of the suburbs at night.

Sounds like most of the LAPD, most live in Simi Valley, which was made famous during the Rodney King beating, and subsequent trial and riots!!
