That's it. The whole message.
On the day that the administration made it clear that single payer was off the table, I promised that President Obama would not get my vote in 2012 if the public option was taken out of the health care reform bill.
If this sounds extreme, then GOOD. Howard Fineman is right. He's giving up the public option card WAY TOO SOON, just like he gave up single-payer without a fight. Does anyone seriously think that, after this, he'll ever get Cap N Trade or anything else of significance? They've figured out his Achilles heel and dropped in the poisoned arrow.
Who does he think will thank him for giving up on health care reform? Republicans? Not. Moderates? Hardly. And now, his base won't be thanking him, either.
So here we are. President Obama has refused to go after the Bush war criminals, or the Constitution wreckers, and he's about to give up on his base with respect to health care reform. We've still got two wars going and they're getting worse.
Is anyone else worried about this?

What it boils down to is that "Yes We Can" was just another campaign slogan.

I should put some context on how I chose the title for my little rant. Most of you know I don't have an original cell in my brain, and this is no exception. In THE AMERICAN PRESIDENT, Sydney Ellen Wade (Annette Bening) says to President Andrew Shepard (Michael Douglas) (words to this effect): "You've got bigger problems than losing your girlfriend. Mr. President, you've just lost my vote. She makes this statement after Shepard promises to get her the last two votes that she will need to pass a fossil fuel reduction bill, and then cold-bloodedly dumps his support for that bill in order to buy support for his crime bill, which he believes he need to win re-election. The whole scenario is eerily familiar, except that President Obama appears to have learned the WRONG lesson from it. Okay. I'm done now. LoL

Good evening, Linda and Patty. How are you?
Sorry to be in such a snit, but health care was issue #3 on my list, after the war and global warming, and I don't see anything being done about those, either.

It doesn't even seem like he is willing to put up the good fight for Health Care. I can't believe how quickly the Dems have seemed to fold. Pelosi seems to be the only one who is holding her ground on requiring any bill include a public option. This is one of the first election cycles that I have donated a fair amount of money. And I have written to everyone that I have previously donated to and explained my new position regarding donations. No public option, no more dollars from me. And his explanations for not going after any of the criminals from the Bush administration is shameful. How will we ever make these corrupt politicians realize that their criminal acts will not be tolerated. No consequences, and it just shows that they are above the law, and it just allows it to continue. Power corrupts-especially when it is not prosecuted or investigated.

Did you hear what Reagan said about doctors not being able to choose where they live if healthcare were nationalized? Is there anybody the Republicans have not tried to frighten to death.

Exactly, and ditto to Linda's comment, too. It's hard to express how disappointed I am after having had such high hopes to begin with. I feel a little like I've been hoodwinked.

Sorry, I forgot to say good evening to both of you. Any news about your mom, Patty? Nothing new. I spoke with my Dad yesterday and she seems to be making a little progress. But we are all concerned that they are just trying to get her stronger, to then start her on chemo. None of us think she can withstand chemo. Then my Dad asked if I wanted to speak with her, and I said yes. He handed the phone to her and said "Pat wants to say hi". And my Mom said "Who is Pat?". That just broke my heart.

Somebody in the administration has to take a stand and live up to their ideals. They should tell the R's to stick it up their jumper. What I don't understand is that although 80% are in favor of NHS, the remaining 20% are allowed to run the show.

I'm so sorry. But don't give up. When my mom had toxic shock, she went into one of those kinds of funks where people thought she didn't know what she was saying, but she came out of it. They also told us that she wouldn't survive surgery for breast cancer because of her advanced emphysema, but she did. You just never know. The will to live can be very strong. Hang in there. For whatever it's worth, you have my prayers.

What I don't understand is that although 80% are in favor of NHS, the remaining 20% are allowed to run the show. Unfortunately, it seems like it was ever thus ... at least for the past 30 or 40 years. Liberals in particular have no ability to stick together and stick to their principles. At the first sign of conflict, they bail.

Thanks Moon & Linda. Your thought & prayers mean alot. I know my Mom knows all of us, but sometimes she just can't come up with the right name, or the right words. But I am so far away and that bothers me. I am going in a few weeks, so maybe when she is able to see me daily, she will begin to remember and connect the name with a face. It is so weird, because 2 weeks ago she called me and asked me what I thought about Obama kind of waffling on health care, so I know she is still here and fighting.

If Delay is on DWTS, I won't be able to watch. That's one of the few network shows that I like and now he's going to ruin it for me. I can't help but wonder which of the dancers drew the short straw. Whoever it is, I hope she puts a foot wrong, right up the jaxie.
